Start Line – Providence Bay Park Hawks Nest

1.5 Lap Course

 

Runners will head out from the start past the Hawks Nest Surf Club and down Beach Rd on the left-hand side. The road becomes gravel after the Mirren St intersection. Runners proceed for 300m before turning right onto single track following the tape and arrows. A quick left heading towards the ocean. This track ends at a T Junction – here runners turn right before another quick left and on to the beach access path. Follow this path until the 4WD track turning right and heading towards Jimmy’s Beach caravan park. Through Jimmy’s Beach Reserve towards an unnamed fire trail. Turn left for 100m then a quick right, through the scrub and on to The Anchorage. At the intersection with The Boulevarde turn left. Follow the Boulevarde to the very end and follow the tape and arrows on to Winda Woppa fire trail. 200m down take the small track on to the beach. Run past Barnes Rocks and follow Jimmy’s Beach on to Wanderrebah Beach until the 4WD access track connecting to Great Mermaid Beach. Follow the beach until Bennett’s Beach 4WD access track – exit the beach here.

 

From the dirt carpark turn right and on to the Michael Rowe Walk. Follow this walk until and through a left bend before a right hand turn on to a small piece of single track. Follow this until the T Junction and turn left. Proceed down to Mungo Brush Rd. Cross road and run on the left hand side verge until Pipers Creek Trail start. There is an aid station here with water.

 

Pipers Creek Aid Station 16.5km

Follow Pipers Creek Trail then turn right onto Tops to Myall Heritage Trail. Take trail until Mungo Brush Rd. Cross on new section of road and continue to follow trail. Where the trail meets the new section of road cross again and continue back on the trail. Watch for cars at road crossings – you must give way. Loop around the Wildflower Walk, across the creek to where it meets Mungo Brush Rd. This is CP1 and Teams Runner change over point.

 

CP1 27km

Safely cross road and head along unnamed track and on to the beach. Follow beach for 3km before exiting at Hole in the Wall picnic area. From here head onto the left hand side verge of Mungo Brush Rd and follow until the Dark Point carpark mark and an aid station.

 

Dark Point Aid Station 36km

From the aid station head up the sand track and follow markers over the dunes and on to the beach. Stay on the beach for 7km until the flag at the National Park sign signalling the exit track (approx 500m after lemontree 4Wd track). Follow the taped track up off the beach onto an NP access road. 750m down, turn hard left on to single track. Follow this, through the scrub, for 500m until another unnamed track - turn left and head up to the start of the Michael Rowe Walk. Turn left (head south - keep the ocean on your left) and follow the walk to Providence Bay Park and the FINISH

Lap2 is a shorter version of the same route

 

Head back out from CP2 past the Hawks Nest Surf Club and down Beach Rd on the left-hand side. The road becomes gravel after the Mirren St intersection.
